A HOME WITHIN THE WOODLAND

 

The landscape proposals seek to intertwine the new dwelling with its woodland setting, allowing the natural beauty and character of the site to be experienced throughout the seasons.

The design responds to the existing contours, creating simple connections between the house, wider landscape and proposed remote studio. A smaller garden to the east of the house makes the most of the existing levels, morning sunlight and connection to the living spaces, while a series of courtyards and a roof terrace allow sunlight to reach the building throughout the day and create a close relationship with the surrounding woodland.

Sensitive interventions are proposed across the wider landscape, including a new woodland management regime and an enhanced planting palette of native bulbs, flowering ground covers and woodland edge wildflowers within clearings. Improvements to access will create new opportunities for people to experience and enjoy the woodland while supporting its long term ecological health.

The planning application follows the Paragraph 84(e) route, with submission made in early 2026.

LANDSCAPE AND PLANNING

Landscape forms an integral part of the Paragraph 84 proposal, with the design centred on strengthening the relationship between the new dwelling and its woodland setting.

 

The landscape strategy seeks to demonstrate how sensitive interventions can enhance the character, ecological value and experience of the site, while allowing the house to sit naturally within the existing landscape.
