The client brief was to create a garden that retained the main structure and function of the current layout whilst providing more visual interest and a sense of journey through a series of spaces offering a variety of experiences.
Different options were explored to provide a flexible lawn space, a green house and area for raised growing beds, an outdoor kitchen with bbq, an intimate seating area with fire pit and opportunities to display their collection of sculptures throughout the garden.
The final design incorporates a series of stepping stone pathways through planting beds to provide a journey through the garden, connecting the main lawn to a small wildflower clearing with sculptures and through to the concealed working area of the garden with shed and chicken coop.
Planting will be more structural with sculptural domes and drifts of perennial and grasses around the main lawn and will become more naturalistic and wild towards the rear of the garden. A screen of silver birch will conceal the working area and provide a light contrast to the large exisitng Yew hedge on the rear boundary.
