PLAN were appointed to design the landscape for a residential led, mix use development in the south east of England. Offering 48 mixed-tenure residential units and 870sqm of commercial space at ground floor. Refurbishment of the adjacent railway arches will provide new studio spaces and bars.
Landscape proposals include a sheltered courtyard garden for residents, new public realm fronting the main road and railway arches and a significant linear rain garden able to receive surface water run-off from surrounding paved areas as part of a sustainable urban drainage strategy.
Native and non-native species will add to an emerging picture of a greener urban realm which supports the local ecological network. Dense tree planting provides shade and shelter to pedestrians while ensuring the building sits within a green streetscape. A more open and flexible hard space provides sculptural seating and new street lighting allow people to step away from the street and enjoy the new opportunities offered by the refurbished railway arches.
