PLAN were asked to design a contemporary courtyard garden that creates a series of level spaces linking the higher level of a new extension to the garage at the lower level.

Paving, step edges and raised planters create clean lines in limestone while abundant planting overflows creating a sheltered, lush courtyard garden.

Lounge space, informal seating, dining and cooking space ensure function is considered equal to appearance.

Views from higher windows on the existing house down to the garage are improved by a new green roof above the garage. Plants were chosen for year round interest, dense coverage and high ecological value.
