A HOME WITHIN THE QUARRY LANDSCAPE

 

Designed as a high quality replacement dwelling, the project responds to the unique challenges of an abandoned limestone quarry. By embracing the site's steep topography, the landscape weaves a network of walkways, gardens and outdoor spaces that respond to and celebrate its rich geological history.

The house and gardens are carefully integrated into the quarry slopes, using materials sourced directly from the site to create a characterful and enduring home that feels rooted within its landscape.

The project was brought forward through the Paragraph 84(e) planning route, with permission granted in mid 2025.

LANDSCAPE AND PLANNING

 

Landscape was instrumental to securing planning permission for Quarry House. The proposal used the site's dramatic topography, geological character and existing landscape features to establish a strong relationship between the dwelling and its setting.

The landscape strategy demonstrated how the development could enhance the site while responding sensitively to its rural context, with the integration of the house into the quarry slopes, use of site won materials and creation of new gardens and habitats forming an integral part of the Paragraph 84 proposal.
